Generally, generic medicines are produced and distributed after the patent for a branded drug runs out. However, researchers and doctors alike are still wondering why the market has yet to see a generic version of insulin. Experts claim that patent refreshing and the difficulty of copying the insulin protein are to blame. Branded insulin is costing governments a significant amount of money, and for those without insurance, it can cost between $120 to $400 per month for treatment.
